Quick 120 Sliding Ab Strength Workout

Perform 30 total reps of all 4 exercises listed below.  Make sure to complete each exercise before moving to the next exercise.

1 -Loaded Sliding Mt. Climbers - 30 Reps
2 - Loaded Slide Outs - 30 Reps
3 - Loaded Wax On-Wax Off - 30 Reps
4 - Loaded Knee Tucks- 30 Reps

Obviously you can go without the band if needed.

Go Slow and Feel the Abs having to Do Work in every Rep to prevent the low back from sagging down.

Ab Absolute Strength Training

 Most people train their abs for endurance which is a great idea considering their primary role when you’re not sleeping is “On Call” stabilization.

However, I recently discovered my abs are not as strong as they could be and that some absolute strength training wouldn’t be a bad idea. 

So I added in band resistance to slide outs. 

WOW… This is an amazing ab strength exercise.

It was like doing Bicep Curls but  for Your Abs

Here’s Why

1 - The band resistance pre-stretches the abs just like with curls.  Obviously this eccentric lengthening loads the abs.
2 - You can literally squeeze your abs on the concentric phase to create an awesome isolated contraction of the abs.
3 -  You can quickly scale the resistance up or down by adjusting the starting tension.  No need to change the band.
4 - You can program it just like you would program curls -  I went with 5 x 10 reps with 30-sec rest between.  My goal will be to reach 10x10 over the next few weeks.

You have to give these a try.  Small band resistance is all that’s needed.

Move slowly to feel the abs working and to prevent that low back from collapsing down.

Simple Ab Challenge 

I have a simple Ab Challenge workout for you to complete at the end of your workout. 

Grab a 13” Hip Band or Dynamic Stabilizer. 

Perform 50 Reps of Knee Taps. (1 Tap equals 1 Rep)

You can do this in an elevated position or on the floor which will be more challenging.

The key is to keep your trunk locked in and minimize rotation.

I have found this to be a very challenging exercise that really  activates the anti-rotational muscles of the trunk, creating a super stable feeling when finished.

Band Mobilization & Stretching

There is definitely more to improving and maintaining mobility than just stretching.

However, regardless of your approach, you have to move and you have to challenge muscles, joints and soft tissues to lengthen.

Over the years I have found stretching and mobilizing with bands vs just using body weight does 5 things:

1 - A Band  provides a slow accommodating over pressure that when combined with effective breathing and using the correct band resistance, allows you to length out more effectively than just using body weight

2 - A band allows you to apply a muscle contraction of the muscles that are opposing you from lengthening out in a specific direction.  This contraction creates a relaxation of those opposing muscles that in turn allows you to go further into the movement your trying to lengthen

3 - A band provides you assistance with gravity that helps you go into ranges of motion that would not be able to be achieve with bodyweight only.

4 -  A band elastic nature provides a joint distraction force to open up joint spaces

5 - A band provides you with unlimited ways to lengthen out the body which keep mobility training fun 

If you are not using a band to do mobility work, I highly recommend trying it.
